Ayushmann Khurrana is the prince of content-driven cinema. His latest release, Dream Girl, is just another reminder of why he is so popular. After all, it’s his sixth consecutive hit after Bareilly Ki Barfi, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan,
AndhaDhun, Badhaai Ho and Article 15
. The actor says, “I am feeling really great at the moment. Earlier, there were films whose lifetime collection used to be what Dream Girl has achieved over the weekend. I am also glad that I get to play such out-of-the-box characters.”

Unlike most of his movies, this isn’t one that has pleased everyone who watched it. A certain section of viewers called it out for being sexist and trivialising the issue of stalking. However, Ayushmann is unperturbed by the flak it has received. He explains, “That’s bound to happen. This is the first time I have done an out-and-out masala film and any film of that genre will face issues and will be criticised.” He further justifies his choice, “This is the complete opposite of Article 15. It was a conscious choice to do a total mass entertainer.”

Ayushmann has made a name for himself by doing films on quirky and taboo topics and believes that he has always been a risk-taker. “I have based my entire career on taking risks. Taking risks is important to reach the next level and I am glad I have carved out a space for myself,” he beams.

The 35-year-old actor has Bala, Gulabo Sitabo and Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan lined up for release and again, these characters have their own uniqueness. Ayushmann opens up about choosing these roles, “For me, SMZS is a commercial film and it should reach the grassroots level and to those who are less comfortable about accepting homosexuality.”

The actor has already worked with the likes of Shoojit Sircar, Sriram Raghavan, Ashwini Iyer Tiwari and Anubhav Sinha, and has been considered a director’s actor. He tells us, “I would love to work with Shakun Batra, Rohit Shetty and Zoya Akhtar.”
