Swara Bhasker's open letter to Sanjay Leela Bhansali about his magnum opus Padmaavat has become the talk of the town. The actress, in her letter has stated how she felt "reduced to a vagina" after watching the Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh starrer film. She even alleged Bhansali of glorifying the act of Jauhar in the film.

While Shahid Kapoor found it awkward, Ranveer Singh, in an interview revealed that Swara had messaged him, congratulating him for his performance in Padmaavat. Now, the leading lady of the film, Deepika too has spoken on the matter.

Commenting on the Jauhar scene in Padmaavat, during an interview with a news channel on Wednesday night, Deepika said, "I think people miss the fact that this film was set in an era- in the 12th and 13th century when rituals like this were practised."

When DP was quizzed about the open letter by Swara, she explained, "She probably missed the disclaimer at the beginning of the film. You probably went out to buy some popcorn and missed the initial disclaimers that come out. I think, secondly, the fact that it is important to view a film in totality and to see in which period it was set in. Third of all, I think for me this film is not just about the act (Jauhar) that they all committed, but it stood for so much more. For me, it’s a celebration of women and their strength, power and dignity.”
