Here's how Deepika Padukone impressed Romi Dev with her transformation in '83

Deepika Padukone who will be seen playing the role of Kapil Dev's wife in '83 has impressed Romi Dev herself with her natural transformation.

Deepika Padukone is set to return to screen next year with two major projects both of which are biographical films. While one is Chhapaak based on acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal the other is Kapil Dev's story as he led the Indian Cricket team to its 1983 world cup win. Deepika impressed many with her first look from Chhapaak which involved a lot of prosthetics help she the actor has also impressed Romi Dev's whose character she will be playing in '83, just with her natural transformation.

A Mid Day report quoted the film’s producer Vishnu Induri as saying, “When Romi saw Deepika on the set, she remarked that she was looking at a mirror image of herself, from 20 years ago. There is a striking similarity. Kabir and Ranveer had met the Devs at their Delhi home for 10 days before the London schedule, so the director had the opportunity to discuss the inputs with Deepika before they began the shoot.”  

A source also told the tabloid when the makers place to reveal Deepika's look from the film. “When Deepika was shooting for her portions in London in July, Kapil Dev and wife Romi had casually dropped in once on the sets. While Romi had met the actor several times before, this was the first time she was seeing her sport her on-screen avatar. Romi was surprised by her transformation. In the film, Dippy sports a shorter hairdo, but has not resorted to using prosthetics. The makers plan to reveal her look like part of the run-up to the teaser’s release. During their meetings, Dippy would carefully study her behaviour and has brought these traits alive in front of the camera.”

Deepika earlier revealed to Bombay Times she wished to meet Romi before they started shooting for the film. The actress had met her a few times including her reception with Ranveer, she also said their family knew each other for years. With the material provided by Kabir Khan's team and the time she spent with Romi, Deepika hoped to bring a film everyone is proud of.

'83 will reunite her with Ranveer Singh after Padmaavat. The Kabir Khan directorial also features Pankaj Tripathi, Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Hardy Sandhu and Chirag Patil. Co-produced by Reliance Entertainment, Phantom Films and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on April 10, 2020.
