It's happening! For all those who were hoping to see Deepika Padukone and Irrfan's quirky chemistry culminate into a love story in Shoojit Sircar's film Piku, the duo is going to be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj's untitled production
According to Mumbai Mirror report, the film based on the life of Sapna Didi will Deepika in the role of mafia queen and Irrfan will play a local gangster who is in love with her and even helps her in the mission to eliminate Dawood Ibrahim. It is going to be directed by Vishal's 52 year old assistant, Honey Trehan. The team caught up in Mumbai on Tuesday, and co-producer Prernaa Arora revealed details about the brainstorming session. She said, " The team had been meaning to meet for a while now. SInce Deepika wasn't shooting for Padmavati and Irrfan is in town, they decided to gather on Tuesday and discuss the script, how their characters would shape up and their looks." Pre-production work has already begun, as Vishal's team has begun scouting locations across India
After learning sword fighting for Sanjay leela Bhansali's 'Bajirao Mastani', Deepika will now learn how to wield a gun for this film. Irrfan is heading to Kerala to begin shooting for a light hearted comedy with Malyalam actor Dulquer Salmaan, Mithila Parker. After that he begin shooting for the film which goes on floors in January end in Mumbai itself.
The film is based on one of the chapters from the investigate journalist turned author, S Hussain Zaidi's book, 'Mafia Queens of Mumbai' The film focusses on the chapter where Sapna Didi had planned Dawood's execution during a cricket match in Sharjah to avenge her husband Mehmood Kaliya's death. Unfortunately for her, he got wind of her plan and killed her days before she could get to him.
