The newly appointed Chief of the Central Board of Film Certification, Prasoon Joshi turns 46 today. The noted lyricist, screenwriter, poet and marketing genius was born on September 16, 1971. Winner of Best Lyricist Filmfare Award thrice, Joshi also won the National Award twice for his heart warming lyrics in Taare Zameen Par and Chittagong. He has also been conferred with the Padma Shri by the Government of India in the year 2015 for his immense and prolific contribution in the fields of Art, Literature and Advertising.

So, on his birthday today, we pick 12 from the many of our favourite songs penned by him:

1) Tujhe Sab Hai Pata...Meri Maa (Taare Zameen Par)

This song from Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par remains the go to anthem of every child who's been put into a boarding school by their parents till date. Every single word brings out the pain and agony of a child who's left all alone, wondering if he's that bad that even his mother allowed his father to send him away. Can't listen to this one without getting emotional.

2) Shukran Allah (Kurbaan)

This track from Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Kurbaan is loved for it's melody and beautifully crafted lyrics that perfectly capture the emotions of two love birds madly in love with each other. The vocals by Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghoshal and Salim Merchant only add to the wonderful composition.

3) Jeene Ke Ishaare (Phir Milenge)

This gem of a song remains as underrated as the movie it is from. Everything about the song is so soulful and not to forget the beautiful imagery created by the lyrics. Sung brilliantly by Shankar Mahadevan, Jeene Ke Ishaare makes for the perfect song to unwind after a hectic day.

4) Chand Sifarish (Fanaa)

This fun filled romantic number has all the naughtiness and romance tangled within its lyrics. Though, it does have naughty undertones but the beauty of the lyrics is such that not even once does it makes you feel uncomfortable. Infact, you end up enjoying those elements crooned to perfection by Shaan.

5) Arziyaan (Delhi 6)

This number from Delhi 6 is what we call food for the soul. The way it simply transports you to another world with its meaningful lyrics and soulful composition is unmatched! It almost romanticises your prayers to the Almighty in a way few other songs have been able to.

6) Tu Bin Bataye (Rang De Basanti)

One of the all time favourite romantic tracks from Rang De Basanti. This soft romantic number sung by Madhushree and Naresh Iyer is like poetry in motion. No matter how many times you listen to this song, you never get over the sense of calm and warmth it evokes. Classic!

7) Zinda (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag)

Need a little motivation to go out there and give it all you've got to achieve your goal? This is the song that will not only inspire you, but also make sure you won't rest until you're on the path to achieve your aim. Sung brilliantly by Siddharth Mahadevan and composed by Shankar Mahadevan, this track deserves to make it to your workout playlist.

8) Lukka Chhuppi (Rang De Basanti)

Another song that evokes a plethora of emotions and we won't be surprised if you end up calling up your mother after listening to this song. Brilliantly composed by A R Rahman who also joins Lata Mangeshkar for crooning this mellifluous number.

9) Saanson Ko Saanson Mein (Hum Tum)

The title song of Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji starrer Hum Tum is one of the most romantic love songs penned by Joshi. The entire song has been written in a manner of asking for permission and giving reasons why the permission should be granted at the same time. Also, the imagery created by the lyrics has been brought out so well in the vocals of Alka Yagnik and Babu Supriyo.

10) Dooriyaan Bhi Hain Zaroori (Break Ke Baad)

Okay! Agreed that the movie is a forgettable one but not the songs. The song brings out how two completely opposite beings justify why there should a little distance between them even if they're in love. An emotiona less explored and portrayed on the silver screens which has been shown in the song, sung by Monica Dogra and Vishal Dadlani.

11) Jeete Hain Chal (Neerja)

This composition by Vishal Khurana, sung by Kavita Seth is all you need to listen to when you're feeling a little low and want to get over a sad phase of your life. It's such a heartfelt number that goosebumps are guaranteed every time you listen to it.

12) Khul Ke Muskura Le (Phir Milenge)

Another forgotten and underrated song which says so much with its lyrics. The emotions of pain and hope find a heart wrenching combination in this song from Phir Milenge. Crooned by Carnatic singer Bombay Jayashri, this is one painful yet beautiful number.
