After teasing the netizens with a teaser and posters of Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, the makers of the Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer have finally unveiled its much anticipated trailer and going by the looks of it, the film has piqued our interest already. Without wasting a single moment, the Gully Boy trailer takes us straight into the gullys of the slums of Mumbai city. We're introduced to a rather subdued Ranveer Singh who seems to be a bit humiliated on not being able to give it back to another gully guy in war of words as he doesn't know how to rap.

The visuals that follow take us through his journey of becoming a star rapper from just a gully boy who initially didn't know how to rap. While on one side we're following Ranveer's jounery to become a rapping sensation, we're also left stunned by the rebel that Alia Bhatt's character is in the film. She plays Ranveer's love interest but stands out owing to her whistle-worthy dialogue delivery. Watch out for the scene with which she's introduced.

She's siting with a prospective groom who's mother asks her if she knows how to cook. Pat comes the reply, "Nahi lekin agar sab kuch sahi raha, ek din main apka liver transplant kar sakti hu (No, but if all goes well, one day I can do your liver transplant)." Alia had me at that one line itself and there are quite a few gems like these in the rest of the trailer.

Vijay Raaz plays Ranveer's father, who doesn't understand his angst and how rapping becomes his passion and we're looking forward to the scenes between him and Ranveer. There's not much clarity on the character of Kalki Koechlin in the film but on watching the trailer, she seems to be the one that ends up creating a conflict between Ranveer and Alia in the film.

The background score of the film sounds pretty impressive. Ranveer totally nails his act as the street rapper. Everything from his gully swag to his rapping skills are oh-so-on-point. Alia too packs a punch with her killer dialogues and no makeup look. Going by the trailer, Zoya Akhtar has managed to capture the 'gully' vibes of the street rappers quite impressively. Unlike her previous polished films (read Zindagi Na Mileg Dobaara and Dil Dhadakne Do), this time Zoya takes us through the smelly and congested bylanes of the slums of Mumbai and still manages to leave us stunned. Inspired from the life of Mumbai's street rappers Divine and Naezy, Gully Boy is one movie we're eagerly looking forward to watch on February 14, 2019.
