Akshay Kumar's upcoming historical sports drama Gold is set against the backdrop of 1940's India. The movie is based on inspiring story of independent India’s Olympic win of that year.  

More than 2000 actors were hired to recreate the 1940’s era for the movie. By looking at the trailer the makers have used innumerable props to depict the vintage look. The costumes and makeup of the actors has been worked upon keenly in order to show the lifestyle of the society then. The film has been shot across the UK and India, capturing the fascinating aspects of the pre-independent era. 

The story of the movie shows Akshay Kumar playing a man who brings together a men’s hockey team to achieve the dream of winning the olympics gold in hockey, despite all the challenges faced and how they won their first ever gold medal. It is an inspiring tale of how a team brought pride and respect for its country. 

The trailer of the movie has advanced the feeling of patriotism among the audience, making it a must watch for all.Akshay Kumar has joined hands with Excel entertainment for the first time with this project.

Gold is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar and directed by Reema Kagti. Starring Akshay Kumar, Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh and Sunny Kaushal, Gold assures dynamic performances by an ensemble cast.

India won its first gold medal as an independent nation at the Olympics on August 12, 1948. Celebrating this historic occasion the movie is due to be released on August 15, 2018 in India, to tie-in with Independence Day.
