Suvigya Sharma, who has created artworks for the who’s who from various walks of life, recently created a special work of art. The artist, who had earlier made a portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has now created an artwork of a sweet moment of the PM and his mother Heeraben. Speaking about the portrait, Suvigya says, “The earlier portrait that I had made was three-and-a-half feet by three feet, but this one is a desktop picture which is nine-by-12 inches.”

Challenging task

Which of the two works for the PM posed more of a challenge, for the artist? He says, “Both have their own challenges. With this one, it’s a proper miniature technique. It’s the same oil on canvas technique, but it has a lot of miniature art which makes it more realistic. And that’s my forte. This portrait took a month to paint.”

Meeting the man

Suvigya came back mighty impressed after his first meeting with the PM, “I was keen to meet him and I am glad I got an opportunity. It was a great meeting. I told him that I am really keen to take this art form to all parts of the world so that our heritage is never forgotten. He was very supportive and encouraging. Modiji is highly knowledgeable about art. He knew how we make our vegetable dye, natural pigments, etc. He also asked me about the foreign market for the art.”

Art talk

The artist is in awe of the PM’s vision and humility. Suvigya says, “He motivated me a lot. Earlier, I had dreams of setting up a miniature painting school, but now I have a vision for it. All these years, I was doing private commissions while hoping to do something more in the world of art. Besides opening an art school, I told him that I also want to have a certified miniature painting course in all other art schools in India. As of now, there are none.”

The artist also met Vice President Venkaiah Naidu two weeks ago. “After talking to the PM, I was asked to meet him,” informs Suvigya, who will hold his annual show, Divinity Of Art from September 25 to October 7 at Kamal Nayan Bajaj Art Gallery at Nariman Point.
