'Easy yes to work with that kind of cinematic brilliance': Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on starring in Mani Ratnam directorial

Earlier this year, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had hinted about the fact that she will be collaborating with her first director Mani Ratnam in his upcoming directorial, Ponniyin Selvan. The film is an adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy historical novel of the same name and has an ensemble cast including Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Amitabh Bachchan, Anushka Shetty, Keerthy Suresh, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Amala Paul. The film is likely to go on floors next year and reports have it, Aishwarya will be seen in a double role.

During the recent Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil's trailer launch, when Aishwarya was asked about this project, she stated, "It is definitely an experience I’m looking forward to for multiple reasons. Mani is my guru and he is one of the most amazing and brilliant directors of our country. I’ve had the honour, privilege and joy of working with him right at the beginning of my career and several times later. It’s an easy yes to work with that kind of cinematic brilliance."

While earlier she told DNA After Hrs, "There is a discussion about a film, but we have to really pick up our conversation from where we left it. Mani is one of my favourite filmmakers."

Earlier it was confirmed that Aishwarya will be playing the role of Nandini, the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar. While now reports have it, the actor will also be seen as Nandini's mute mother, Queen Mandakini Devi. It was said that playing dual roles was one of the reasons, the actor said yes to the project.
