It's been a long battle for Sanjay Leela Bhansali to bring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat to the audience.

Even after clearance from Central Board of Film Certification, U/A certificate, a new title and 6 disclaimers which scream out loud that the film is a tribute to the Rajput queen, the protests against the film haven't slowed down. After the Supreme Court of India suspended the ban on the film by Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan government and gave a go-ahead to pan-India release on January 25th, the states of MP and Rajasthan have filed a plea in SC, seeking a modification in the order of the apex court. The top court is likely to hear the plea on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Karni Sena workers are taking extreme measures to threaten people from watching Bhansali's film in theatres. News on Padmaavat is not about how the 180 crore film got made or how the stars prepped for their roles but it has become all about news of fringe group workers vandalising malls, blocking roads, threatening to commit suicide in various parts of the country.

Shabana Azmi recently told NDTV it's no surprise that the threats continue even after top court's verdict because we didn't take effective action against people threatening to cut Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's nose. Citing an example of her own controversial film 'Fire', Azmi also said, After the film was cleared by the Supreme Court, the film had released peacefully across the country."

Film fraternities across the country stood by team Padmaavat.  Pad Man Akshay Kumar even changed the release date of his film to avoid clash with Padmaavat. But now we have to see if fringe fury is going to affect audience interest in Padmaavat. Are cine goers scared to watch Padmaavat at cinema halls.

The big question remains: Will Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor fans go and watch the film on this Republic Day weekend?
