Recently, during a  personal media interaction, Arjun Kapoor joked that a little after R Balki’s Ki & Ka (2016) released, he was named India’s most-sought after munda (boy). In the film, Arjun played Kareena Kapoor Khan’s stay-at-home husband and support system. Since many (especially women across segments) felt he was so lovable in the film, he was nicknamed, ‘India’s favourite munda.’

This one example apart, Arjun has always been known to be a good support system to his three sisters — Anshula, Janhvi and Khushi. His first cousins, Sonam K Ahuja and Rhea Kapoor, are also fond of him. And the one thing that comes across when you meet him is his keenness to work for causes that empower women. So, it didn’t exactly come as a complete surprise that the actor has turned entrepreneur and invested in an emerging food delivery start-up. Led by CEO Vedant Kanoi and co-founder Sanjhi Rajgarhia, this set-up is looking to reach out to stay-at-home female cooks and make them self-reliant business women. Arjun says, “For a while now, I have been keen to invest in a promising start-up that can impact positive social change towards gender parity. So, Foodcloud.in ticked all boxes for me as it provides a unique service of delivering fresh, home cooked cuisine prepared by some of the most brilliant, amateur, stay-at-home women at your doorstep. My aim of investing in this set-up is to contribute towards a larger societal purpose — of empowering homemakers to contribute towards their family income. It not only boosts household income leading to a better lifestyle but also drives gender parity for the woman at home or in her neighbourhood. To me, that’s a tiny step towards parity and empowerment in society at large. I want these gifted women to sign up with this platform that will work tirelessly to enable them and convert their valuable skill set into an economic asset for themselves and their families.”

The food delivery chain has made a high impact within a short span of time due to its novel concept. It is already a success story with people between the age group of 21-35 across Delhi-NCR and Kolkata. Now, the firm plans to expand to Mumbai and six other Indian cities.

Vedant Kanoi, CEO of Foodcloud.in, says, “Having a socially conscious youth icon like Arjun, supporting our endeavour to empower women in our country, is a dream come true. We love how he understood our larger purpose of creating a whole new segment of women entrepreneurs at the first go. He’s enjoyed the homemade food by our talented home chefs in Delhi and we’re excited to have his support to grow our initiative to new cities. His ideas have been great and we know that having him as an investor and advisor for our company will help us achieve our goals.”
