Vicky Kaushal is all set to play the titular role in Udham Singh biopic being helmed by Shoojit Sircar and produced by Ronnie Lahiri of Rising Sun Films. For the uninitiated, the biopic is based on Udham Singh who assassinated Michael O’Dwyer in 1940, to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. This is the first outing of Vicky and Shoojit, while earlier there were reports making the rounds that either Irrfan Khan or Ranbir Kapoor might play the lead role.

Recently, Deccan Chronicle reported that Sara Ali Khan was approached to play the female lead and she politely declined as her dates clashed with Imtiaz Ali's film with Kartik Aaryan. However, Ronnie released a statement where he said that no actors have been approached for the female lead. He stated, "There is a rumour doing the rounds about the casting of our film, Udham Singh. The only actor on board the project currently is Vicky Kaushal who will play the lead. We would like to categorically state that no other actor or actress has either been approached or offered any role in the film. We request you to refrain from conjecture on this matter."

Well, that put all rumours to the rest!

Earlier, when Vicky was asked about starring in the biopic, he stated, "It’s a surreal feeling because it’s like a dream come true as I am finally getting to work with him. I have always been a big admirer of how Shoojit sir looks at his stories. The way he is looking at the character (Udham Singh) and the world is extraordinary as well as beautiful".

Udham Singh biopic will hit the screens in 2020.
