Figure-flattering outfits will always hold sway over B-Town ladies but oversized jackets seem to be finding favour with them of late. Deepika Padukone has opted for the baggy coat a number of times in recent times. She threw an acid-wash denim jacket over a white shirt and sheer leggings when she was at the airport a couple of days ago. She seems to have a special liking for the big jacket, as she has donned them in different fabrics and colours — denim, olive green and beige.

Other stunners like Kareena Kapoor Khan and Anushka Sharma, have also opted for it, whether they were collecting air miles, running errands or grabbing a bite. Malaika Arora wore a denim jacket over a white maxi dress when she was at a hotspot recently. Aditi Rao Hydari teamed it with shorts and a top, while Sania Mirza wore a white one as she cradled baby Izhaan Mirza Malik at the airport recently.

ALL ABOUT COMFORT

“The anti-fit movement is back,” says designer Rick Roy, adding, “It’s a matter of comfort, as these actresses don’t prefer anything clinging to their bodies while they are out and about. And, trends catch on quickly. If they are wearing these, others will follow suit.” Apart from being comfy, he says that it also looks stylish, which makes it a win-win situation to adorn it.

VERSATILE GARB

The beauties have completed their look with the oversized jacket over as different types of outfits as dresses, shorts, leggings and even formals, Rick attributes this to the fact that it’s a versatile piece of clothing. “That’s how jackets are. You can put it on anything you want and it will look good. In this case, it’s a bigger size. You can throw it on anything. One can’t take away from its versatility,” says he, adding, “The trend is the size and not the style of it, really.”

ADD JUST AN ELEMENT

It’s all about how comfortable you are in your skin and nothing should stop you from grabbing an oversized jacket if it so pleases you, regardless of your body type. However, Rick adds that if you are on the heavier side, then it should probably be avoided because it will make you look bigger. “It’s great if you are okay with looking larger than your size but if you’re not, then just don’t go for this trend; it’s as simple as that.” But he cautions that one should not opt for it if wearing an oversized T-shirt or anti-fit pants. “Unless you want to look like a sack,” Rick laughs, “Wear something that’s your size and add just an element of an oversized thingie to make a statement. That will make it interesting instead of making it look like a hobo shack with everything hanging on it,” he concludes.
