Salman Khan has now spent some time in Jodhpur Central Jail, awaiting the District and Sessions judge to hear his bail plea after being convicted in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. But reportedly his stay in a jail is unlike a common prisoner.
Per India Today report, the Dabangg star was seated in an air-conditioned conference room on his first night in the jail. The room also has multiple TV sets. Salman has been provided with an air cooler in his barrack. Said cooler is allegedly otherwise used in one of the chief officer's room.
Media reports also say that on Friday Salman was allowed to have his own cigarettes.
Jail officials are reportedly treating Salman Khan with special care. Their families have visited the star and have taken selfies with him. Jail personnel too have been part of that selfie frenzy, says the report.
Speaking of visitors, apart from his lawyer and sister Alvira and Arpita, on Friday, Salman Khan met with his bodyguard Shera and former co-star Preity Zinta.
According to Republic, Shera and Preity Zinta's visit were outside the official visiting hours. Jodhpur Central Jail's visiting hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday are from 4 pm to 6 pm. Sunday visiting hours are from 9 am to 11 am and then from 2 pm to 4 pm.
Ms. Zinta and Shera met with Salman on Friday.
Also, according to jail rules, visitor's vehicles are not allowed inside the premises. When Salman Khan was first brought here in 2006 and then in 2007, he had to walk to the gates of the complex. Zinta's car, on the other hand, was allowed inside the premises.
Such incidents beg the question why the VIP treatment for the Bollywood star when a common prisoner is not given access to such privileges?
"Despite jail authorities denying any kind of special treatment meted out to Salman, the court should take cognizance," said Ram Nivas Dhoru, secretary of the Bishnoi Tiger force.
The actor had on Thursday appealed for a bail following his conviction in the 20-year-old case.
Salman was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of killing two blackbucks in Jodhpur during the shooting of his movie Hum Saath Saath Hain in 1998.
The other 4 accused actors -- Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam, and Sonali Bendre -- were acquitted in the case.
