The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has clamped down on the title of Riteish Deshmukh and Vivek Oberoi starrer Bank Chor, as it sounds like the Hindi expletive bhench**. The makers of the film have been directed to re-dub the words every time they are uttered in the film. Says a source from the board, “The makers of the film thought they were being very clever by using a title that sounds like a bad word, and they assumed every time the other actors say ‘Bank Chor’, the audience would roar with laughter.”

However, the CBFC has put its foot down saying that they wouldn’t certify the film unless the title was re-dubbed everywhere it’s used in the film. “We have also asked them to redo the title in the trailers — basically, everywhere they have used ‘bank chor’ like the Hindi gaali,” says the source.

The CBFC’s gripe, according to the source, was the use of the words as the USP in the film’s humour. “We were sorry to play spoilsport, but this was the most uncalled-for and recurring obscenity in the film. We asked them to clean it out,” the source adds.
