It looks like after the initial burst of bravado over a liberal viewing of films, the Central Board Of  Film Certification (CBFC), under the stewardship of Prasoon Joshi, has revised its attitude of liberal impetuosity.

Sources say that after bravely and, liberally certifying the eagerly awaited new horror film, It with an all-clear A certificate, Prasoon has had second thoughts. According to a well-informed source, “Initially, all the abuses and profanities were allowed to go in the movie. But then, the CBFC did a turn-around. Within 24 hours, the film’s producers and Indian distributors, Warner Brothers, were asked to delete three profanities: pu**y, motherf***er and c**t.”

Warner Brothers finds itself in a fix now. By the time the revised censor instructions came to them, they had already informed their head office in Los Angeles and the It director Andres Muschietti that the film was cleared with no cuts. An anonymous source from Warner Brothers says, “We will have to go to the Tribunal to fight against the cuts because we’ve already informed the director and our LA office that the film has been passed without cuts. Now, we have no choice, but to fight it out.”

On the other hand, if the director refuses to take the cuts, the film may not release in India at all. This has happened with David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo in 2011 and Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine where the directors refused to accept the changes ordered by the Indian CBFC.
