CBFC asks for 12 cuts and 2 disclaimers in the film.
Trouble for Indu Sarkar doesn't seem to end. After Congress party leaders objecting to the film and its depiction of the Emergency period in India during Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's regime, now the censor board screening has added to Madhur Bhandarkar's woes. The filmmaker has been asked to make 14 cuts in the film and now plans to go the revising committee now.
In an interview to Mumbai Mirror, Madhur Bhandarkar revealed CBFC demands, he said, " It's absurd that names of political leaders like Atal Bihar Vajpayee, Moraji Desai and Lal Krishna Advani that appear in a newspaper that someone is reading doesn't pass muster, nor does that of Jayprakash Narayan even when it's just a part of slogan being shouted. Nor for the matter do references to political terms like "Akali", Communist and the the organisation RSS. It's really disappointing. But what's really mind boggling is that even Kishore Kumar's name ( the singer's songs were banned on Doordarshan and All India Radio because he refused to perform at Congress rally at that time) needs to be dropped."
" Bharat ki ek beti ne desh ko bandi banaya hua hai" which is included in the trailer doing the rounds is also on the list of lines to be deleted. Also words like 'IB', "Section Officer" and even "PM" have been blacklisted by Censor Board. To add to his disbelief, CBFC has questioned Madhur on his film being dedicated "to the unsung heroes who fought for democracy during Emergency." The filmmaker has also been asked to add two disclaimers in the film.
Not new to controversy,Madhur Bhandarkar has also been dealing with Congress party's wrath. Labelling it as BJP's political ploy, Congress leaders of Indore have said they will not let the film release in their city. Even Maharashtra Leader of Opposition (LoP) Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil on Saturday wrote to state Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to intervene in the matter revolving around the controversial movie ‘Indu Sarkar’ based on the Emergency imposed by former prime minister Indira Gandhi. Patil expressed the Congress’ apprehension that the movie might have distorted the historical facts which may hurt the sentiments of the Congressmen and the public at large and so the movie must be exhibited to the Congress first and then be released. Patil further said the Chief Minister should assure this so that law and order situation post the release of the movie is maintained.
The film is slated for July 28 release
