Look no further than Sara Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor’s last few appearances, if you are looking for New Year Eve’s party style inspo. Of late, Sara has been killing it with abstract animal prints and high-octane shine for her promotional photo-ops and Janhvi’s Instagram account is inundated with unapologetic shine.

Recently, Janhvi was a complete head-turner in a Prabal Gurung pantsuit and Sara cut a fine figure in an embellished mini dress by Topshop. It’s all about metallics this party season — from Rimzim Dadu’s soft hues emitting sparkle to Balmain’s holographic tasselled minis to Halpern’s 70s-inspired numbers. “Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing and Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello have been very consistent with beaded minis in their collections and it has made its presence felt this party season,” observes designer Surily Goel.

We get experts to suggest cool ways to sparkle.

METALLICS ALL THE WAY

There’s a way to pull off shine and one needn’t look like a shiny disco ball. Stylist Isha Bhansali roots for shine-on pieces. “They never go out of style. There are so many ways to wear sparkle in different colours and prints. While leopard print doesn’t complement everybody, metallics suit everyone. You need to make it look ‘lit’, however, don’t do overdo it. Let an element stand out and do it in a minimal and classy way. If you are opting for a pair of metallic pants, team it with a black shirt or mix solid with sheer,” says Isha.

She suggests an all-sequinned blazer which will go with everything — be it a dress, tights or a pair of distressed denims. “Throw it on and you are good to go,” she adds.

GO BOLD OR GO HOME

Millennial and Gen Z celebrities have not shied away from clashing prints and textures and one could borrow a lesson or two from their delightful clash.

Designer Aniket Satam suggests, “This party season, go full-blown millennial crazy. Think of shine clash, mix sequins with beads and print on print. Team florals with cheetah prints, checks with polka dots. Create unique and crazy pattern on pattern looks. Mini is going strong as a trend along with the hell-raising power shoulders — it will be a showstopping winning outfit.”
