Even as the makers of the Ram Charan Teja blockbuster, Magadheera, have sought a stay in the Hyderabad court on the release of the Sushant Singh- -Kriti Sanon starrer, Raabta, accusing them of violation of copyright, the makers and the cast in a recent interaction, insist that there is no similarity whatsoever between the two films.

According to Kriti Sanon, who admitted to have seen Magadheera and liked it immensely, there was nothing common between the two films, apart from the fact that they were both based on re-incarnation, “I have seen Magadheera and liked it too. It was set in a completely different time-zone, with chariots, armours, royalty and dressed women. Raabta is completely different in every aspect including the flashback angle. The only common factor is the reincarnation bit,” she said.

Kriti Sanon, who plays two different characters in the film, one in a flashback mode, also said she had no reference point when she set out to play the character, “All of us were on the same page that it was in a timeline and place which was rugged and raw, where we spoke in a khadi boli dialect. We shot all those flashback portions in a forest in real locations with tents,” she said.

Filmmaker Dinesh Vijan, who makes his directorial debut with the film, admitted that there were comparisons that were being made between the two films but denied that there was any similarity apart from the reincarnation part, “Magadheera is a blockbuster down south but apart from the fact that the story is about reincarnation, there is nothing common between the two. It is like talking about two films which tell a love story between three people, which are entirely different in their story, execution, characterization and other aspects. Also we had Madhumati, Karan-Arjun and Om Shanti Om, all revolving around the concept of re-incarnation. In my film, we are trying to reincarnate reincarnation and discuss the concept of unrequited love,” he said.

According to Vijan, he developed the confidence to go ahead with the film only when he tested Sushant and Kriti, who were interacting for the first time on screen, “When I saw them banter on screen, it was like the screen came alive. I was convinced that they had the Raabta factor- the unique connect between them.”

Also he felt that he was done with romcoms and three-way relationships like Cocktail and Love- Aaj, Kal, ”I felt that romcoms, love triangles, musicals and extra-maritals were all done with. Here I was exploring the complexity of relationships where I questioned the deep-rooted code about some relationships,” he says.
