Ayushmann Khurrana and Sanya Malhotra's Badhaai Ho set to be remade in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam after Boney Kapoor acquires rights of the film
Boney Kapoor was recently in news for acquiring the remake rights of Amitabh Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu starrer Pink and turn it into a Kannada film titled Nerkonda Paarvai which stars superstar Ajith in the lead role. Reportedly, Boney's late actress-wife Sridevi asked the filmmaker to work in a movie with Ajith. She had appeared with him in Gauri Shinde's English Vinglish.
The filmmaker has now acquired rights of Tevar helmer Amit Sharma's movie Badhaai Ho. Boney plans to remake the film, which was one of 2018's most talked-about film, in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam cinema. The original movie starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Sanya Malhotra, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao.
Confirming the news to Mumbai Mirror, Boney said, "Yes, I have acquired the rights to all the South languages. It's a film that resonates with both the masses and classes so I was keen on remaking it. The Hindi version has done extremely well in the heartland, in fact, across the country, and I am confident the reception down South will be as overwhelming. I am yet to decide whether the Tamil or the Telugu version go on the floors first as it's work in progress."
"Right now, my priority is to complete Nerkonda Paarvai because though I have made films down South with Ram Gopal Varma (the Telugu films Raatri and Antham), I'm returning to the South after 25 years. Anyway, I am still to lock the director and artists which will take a while," added Boney Kapoor.
Badhaai Ho was the beautiful portrayal of changing family dynamics. It revolved around Ayushmann Khurrana's life. While he was about to marry his girlfriend, his mother reveals that she is pregnant. How the story unfolds thereon marks the entirety of the movie.
