Big-screen dreams: Purab Kohli is hopeful of good times ahead for Bollywood

Purab Kohli, who has the finale of the popular web series Sense8 coming up in June, has acted in a number of movies, the last one being Noor. Although he believes that web series are the order of the day, the actor is of the opinion that filmmakers in India are going through a golden phase, where they can try out different content. “There are a couple of good films we saw in the recent past, including Masaan and A Death in the Gunj,” he says. 

It’s also a time when movies with interesting ensemble casts are doing well. “There used to be a time when roles for even the smaller characters were written well. Indian cinema lost that somewhere, till Baazigar happened. I always feel that a good film is when every character is etched out and has a story to tell,” he says, adding that he’s writing a crime-drama these days, which he hopes to see on the big screen someday.
