The debate on nepotism may seem redundant with many insisting that talent overweighs everything else.

In a recent interview while talking about her evolving career, Aditi Rao Hydari also made a veiled reference to the nepotism debate. The actress, who last delivered a laudable performance in Mani Ratnam’s Kaatru Veliyidai and is currently working with Sanjay Bhansali in Padmavati, besides Omung Kumar’s Bhoomi, admitted that she was fortunate that reckoned filmmakers were spotting her talent and taking her on board,  without a lineage of forefathers in the industry, “For girls like me who don’t have a backing and that kind of support system in the industry, our careers are really about people looking at our past work and potential, and giving us work. For me, whether it’s Mani-sir, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Omung Kumar or Vidhu Vinod Chopra, these filmmakers have taken me on board on the basis of my sheer potential and I feel blessed for that,” Aditi revealed.

Six years in the film industry, Aditi accepted it's not easy getting good projects. She said, “It has not been an easy ride. I have been working for six years now and it’s not as if I have been doing three prized projects a year. It is difficult to get good stuff for sure but I am getting it slow and steady in my own way. It is a good thing for me as an actor and I consider it a blessing in disguise,” she said, recalling her  commitment to cinema, “I can only hope that people keep noticing me for what I bring to the table in terms of my talent and commitment for cinema. For me to bring in front of the camera, is being in a magic land. I love it and that’s what drives me to constantly transform. Having said that only a good director can bring out a good performance from an actor and the entire credit goes to the director,” she said.

She made a reference to Hollywood and how actors there landed projects on the basis of pure talent, “There talent alone matters. A young actor like Jennifer Lawrence started off by doing a small part in a television film after which noted makers spotted her potential and gave her opportunities based on her talent. I wish something like this would happen more often in Bollywood. Thankfully, it is happening now but it needs to happen, more easily. Filmmakers need to have faith in talent and I am a classic example of filmmakers identifying me for my potential rather than the perception of my lineage." The actress also revealed that she signed Omung Kumar film Bhoomi because he felt that she had a great untapped potential as an actor and she had a great emotive ability.
