After the success of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, director Shree Narayan Singh returns with Batti Gul Meter Chalu (BGMC). The light-hearted social drama, which stars Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, focusses on electricity pilferage in small cities. Though it is set in Tehri, Uttarakhand, the issue is relevant to the entire country. Says the director, “This film will make people aware and have them thinking about these issues. In today’s time, we need to be vigilant.”

The movie reunites the Haider pair — Shahid and Shraddha — after four years and features Divyenndu as well as Yami Gautam in pivotal roles. It’s a quirky take on faulty electricity meters and inflated bills. The story is about three friends, played by Shahid, Shraddha and Divyenndu, who believe in living life to the fullest until the issue that the film is based on affects them.

Producer Bhushan Kumar says, “BGMC may be an unusual subject for people living in metros. The issue of power cuts and inflated bills in a small town is not something we have experienced first hand. However, director Shree Narayan Singh has convincingly managed to tell a tale that any sensitive person residing anywhere will be able to relate to it. The actors have done a splendid job. I’m hopeful that the audience will appreciate the film.”

Batti Gul Meter Chalu, produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Nitin Chandrachud and Nishant Pitti under the banner of T-Series and Krti Pictures, releases today.
