Twitter users were trending legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar since Thursday evening after someone called her overrated on the micro-blogging site.

Singer Adnan Sami did not hold back as he slammed the user and jumped to the singer's defense. Adnan said that it is better to stay silent rather than letting the world know of their stupidity.

For the uninformed, the original tweet read, "Indians have been brainwashed into thinking that Lata Mangeshkar has a good voice."

To this, Adnan firmly replied saying, "Bandar Kya Jaane Adrak Ka Swaad (What does the monkey know of the good taste of ginger). ...It’s better to stay silent and appear stupid than to open your mouth & remove all doubt!!"

The Twitter user, however, did not stop there and wrote, "I'm glad she didn't sing for Umrao Jaan. Till Pakeezah she wasn't that bad for me so I don't mind too much. I'm fond of the OST of both these movies. Technical genius maybe but aaargh those high notes in her voice are painful."

Ever since the tweets, Lata Mangeshkar has been trending on the site with more than 8000 tweets mostly defending the singer and her genius. Multiple users shared Lata's most popular songs to prove their point.

Adnan later also shared a photo of Lata Mangeshkar with her sister Asha Bhosle and Pakistani singer Noor Jehan on Instagram.

He wrote, "What an Iconic & Historic Photo! #LataMangeshkar #NoorJehan #AshaBhosle."

Lata, in an earlier interview, had said that she can never listen to her own songs as she will find "a hundred mistakes" in them.

The 91-year-old singer had told Bollywood Hungama, "Never! I never listen to my songs. If I did, I'd find a hundred mistakes in my singing. Even in the past, once I finished recording a song I was done with it."
