The ‘good Sindhi bahu’, as Ranveer Singh described her, Deepika Padukone recently dazzled onlookers at the airport as she sashayed in wearing a pair of silvery leather pants with a simple crisp white tee. The Padmaavat star completed her look with a pair of silver earrings, black sunnies, and white sneakers. Before her, Sonam K Ahuja kept her fashion game on point on her 34th birthday when she opted for a white knotted shirt with a plunging neckline and teamed it with a metallic silver skirt.

After these two stunners, a number of B-Town babes have been spotted in sartorial bling and how! For instance, while shooting for the dance reality show Dance India Dance, judge Kareena Kapoor Khan turned heads in an electric blue thigh-high slit glittery gown. A week later, her sister Karisma Kapoor opted for a similar sparkly pink gown with a slit.

Apart from these divas, younger girls Kriti Sanon and Ananya Panday have also gone the bling way. While Kriti rocked a sequinned blue Rutu Neeva outfit at her film’s promotion, Ananya threw a metallic cuffed jacket over her short black dress recently.  Speaking about the trend, designer Nachiket Barve says, “I think at some level, there is a resurgence from the ’70s. Someone can be inspired from that decade or even the ’80s, and interpret it for the customer to absorb the old ways.” He adds that a skirt is a nice way to update and glamourise your everyday look if you are opting for shimmer. “The idea is a subtle lustre to it up without being OTT.”

Nachiket added, “Today, there are no specific trends as such because, at every point, something or the other is trending. So, somebody can be inspired by the ’70s or the ’80s. At the same time, when we move far from those eras, which were a creative period, it is looked at as nostalgia. And that’s why the trend keeps up popping constantly.”

Giving a tip to ace the look in daily life the designer says, “I think the important thing for most people is to opt for the look in the evening than during the day. While Sonam chose the look for a brunch,  for people going on a date or to the office it will be overpowering. I think the idea is to take that and keep everything else basic so the skirt becomes a highlight.  Then it’s nice to add some shimmer lustre without resorting to any form of embellishment.”
