Ayushmann Khurrana has had a successful innings as a host, actor, singer, and now as a columnist. And though he is active in most of these, hosting has taken a backseat. It’s something the actor wants to get back to, but at at later stage in his career.
While Ayushmann is usually remembered for his Roadies stint, he began is career as a radio jockey. “Then I became a VJ,” says the actor. “From 2008 to 2012, I hosted a lot of TV shows, from music, spoofs, IPL, dance shows, talent shows... I’ve also hosted award shows. I do that even now sometimes, when I get time from my films and music,” he adds.
Ayushmann is now busy with his many work assignments. “Hosting a show doesn’t interest me as of now, but at a later stage of my career, I’d like to do that again. Maybe, host a talk show. Even during concerts, I love interacting with people. But, right now, I want to explore myself as an actor, singer, and a musician. Anchoring has taken a backseat. It’s a deliberate attempt.”
While he has been a radio and TV host, his favourite is neither of the famous Jimmys — Fallon or Kimmel. “I love Ryan Seacrest. I’ve always idolised him as a radio presenter and anchor because he was the only one doing these two things together. His knowledge of music is great, and I was a music geek too when I was a presenter. I used to make my own playlists. Being an anchor is not just about the humour, but also about the connect. You have to strike every chord — emotional, funny, spiritual, or sad. I think he’s the kind of person who can do that.”
