Anushka Sharma, Hansal Mehta, Ali Fazal, Manoj Bajpayee, other celebs mourn Asif Basra's demise

As soon as the news of the actor's sudden death spread, members from the film and television industry extended condolences to Asif Basra's family and mourned his demise.

Bollywood actor Asif Basra (53) allegedly committed suicide on Thursday at his palatial rented residence in Himachal Pradesh town Dharamshala where he was staying for nearly four years, the police said. He committed suicide by hanging himself with a leash of his pet dog, Superintendent of Police Vimukt Ranjan told IANS. As per the police, just before the alleged suicide, he had returned from a stroll in the locality along with his dog.

No suicide note has been recovered. The police and the forensic team is at the spot and is investigating the matter and further details are awaited. It has been learnt that Basra, who was under depression, was staying here with a British woman.

Basra has done character roles in several Bollywood films including `Jab We Met,` `Ek Villain,` `Fanney Khan,` `Roy,` `Hichki,` among others. He has also worked in several web shows including Amazon Prime`s `Paatal Lok.`

Actress Anushka Sharma took to her Instagram stories and wrote, "My sincere condolences and prayers with the family and loved ones. RIP Asif Basra."


Actor Ali Fazal too mourned the talented star's death. He wrote on Instagram, "Asif Bhai, May you find peace. Heart breaking!."


Tony Kakkar took to Twitter and wrote, "So sad to hear about the untimely death of great actor #AsifBasra. Huge loss."


Filmmaker Hansal Mehta tweeted, "Asif Basra! Can't be true... This is just very, very sad.

Reacting to Hansal Mehta's news of Asif Basra's demise, actor Manoj Bajpayee wrote, "What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before Lockdown!!! Oh My God!!!"

Indian film director Onir too took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express shock and disbelief. He wrote, "In shock. Cant believe that we have lost him. #asifbasra. Used to meet him so often at the park jogging. He would tell me not to jog sideways,I might loose balance and hurt myself."

Television actor Karanvir Bohra wrote, "This is so so sad.... Rest in peace brother #AsifBasra."

Casting director and filmmaker Mukesh Chhabra wrote, "This can’t be true Asif Bhai, we have done so much work together from Kai Po Che to Hostages 2. I can not believe this! Whatttt is happening??????????? #asifbasra."
