Kalank is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of the year. The saga of love set in 1940s has been in the news ever since its announcement.
It has been helmed by Abhishek Varman, whose 2 States (2014) was loved by critics and audiences alike. Kalank was entrusted to the young director as he is very close to filmmaker Karan Johar. The movie was conceived by Karan’s father Yash Johar 15 years ago and was the last project he worked on. Post the release of Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), Karan wanted to direct it himself. Unfortunately, the film, which was in pre-production then, went on the back burner, but it has always stayed close to his heart.
Recently, KJo even shared a still from the movie on his social media and wrote how Kalank is special to him. He described it as a story of turbulent relationships and eternal love. As the film is nearing its release, the filmmaker is filled with mixed emotions. He is excited, anxious and emotional all at once, especially now that his father’s wish has come to fruition on celluloid.
From the material that one has seen, it’s evident that the film is a relationship drama. But at its heart, it’s a love story. The epic drama based in Hindustan stars Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha and Madhuri Dixit-Nene. The makers satisfied the audience’s curiosity by revealing the posters of all the characters a few days ago. The entire star cast will grace the teaser launch, which is happening tomorrow, post which the teaser will be out.
Kalank, presented by Fox Star Studios, is produced by Dharma Productions and Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film will release on April 17.
