If there's one thing about Indian summers that every one simply loves, then it's mangoes. Touted as the king of fruits, mango holds a special place in the hearts of all Indians. Those who have seen Victoria and Abdul, would definitely remember the funny scene where Ali Fazal’s on-screen character, Abdul Karim, calls the mango sent as a gift from India for Queen Victoria (played by Judi Dench) 'off', in the sense that the fruit is not ripe, but rotten. That scene definitely became one of the most memorable part of the film.

As an ode to his off-screen friendship with Dame Judi Dench, Ali packed and sent across the most delectable Alphonso mangoes for her and got it delivered to her residence in London. Now that's really a great gesture to seal a friendship.

DNA got in touch with Ali to know how did the senior actor react to his unique gift. Here's what he had to say, “Judi was thrilled when she got the mangoes, thanks to my friend Jagdish Purohit who sent the most delicious mangoes to her. Fresh and homegrown. He ensured they reached the next day. When we shot the film we did a scene where Queen Victoria never tasted a mango from India. It used to go off by the time it would arrive in England. So I decided to send Judi, 'My Queen', a few. Because of our amazing time on Victoria and Abdul. I personally love mangoes. I think it is rightfully the queen of all fruits. My grandfather and I used to wait for the season. And he taught me how to pick and choose the right mangoes."
