Akshay Kumar to work with 'Mission Mangal' director Jagan Shakti again, to remake Vijay starrer 'Kaththi'

Even before the release of his debut directorial 'Mission Mangal', Jagan Shakti announces his next which will be the Hindi remake of Vijay starrer 'Kaththi'.

Filmmaker Jagan Shakti is all set to make his directorial debut with Mission Mangal which has an ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi, H. G. Dattatreya and Sonakshi Sinha. The film is slated to release on August 15, 2019. But during a recent interaction with Mumbai Mirror, Jagan revealed that his first directorial was supposed to be the Hindi remake of Vijay starrer Kaththi and he had roped in Akshay for the same.

The film was titled Ikka and had Akshay playing a double role. However, he had put the film on hold and now Jagan revealed that the film is set to be back in action. He stated to the tabloid, "But now Ikka will go on the floors very soon. It will resonate with the underprivileged section of the society. With my second directorial, I want to explore action which is presented in a sleek way."

Talking about Kaththi, the film was directed by AR Murugadoss and also starred Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Sathish in pivotal roles. The film was released on October 22, 2014.

Meanwhile, Mission Mangal is based on the story of scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission. 

The film is all set to be premiered at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne. IFFM 2019 will host the official Australian premiere of the film on Independence Day at HOYTS Chadstone in Melbourne which will incidentally be the first festival premiere for the film.
