This Independence Day, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham vied for the box-office pie as their respective films, Gold and Satyameva Jayate, released simultaneously. Now, it looks like August 15, 2019, will see an encore as Akki and R Balki’s Mission Mangal, inspired by India’s 2014 Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan), is slated to open in cinemas on this national holiday. Also, John and filmmaker Nikkhil Advani have already announced this date for their next collaboration, Batla House, based on the controversial 2008 encounter.
However, unlike this year, 2019 will see a three-way clash. Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy’s Made In China, backed by Dinesh Vijan, too, has locked August 15 as its date with the audiences. Given that Independence Day 2019 is still a long time away, it remains to be seen who eventually sticks to the date and who avoids the three-way clash.
Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s ambitious sci-fi project Brahmastra was also set to hit theatres on August 15 next year. But there has been a change in plan. Now that the I-Day, 2019 has already got overcrowded, the makers of the Ayan Mukerji directorial have decided to postpone their film to December next year. Karan Johar, who’s backing the mega-budget venture, announced that Brahmastra will now take up the Christmas 2019 slot. So, there’s a lot of idhar-udhar happening with the dates for sure!
