Bhushan Kumar is currently a very busy man, producing a number of upcoming big Bollywood releases like Bharat, Batti Gul Meter Chalu, Mogul and even Fanney Khan, which releases tomorrow. Yet, he’s decided to add another movie to his list, this one being Ajay Devgn’s historical drama, Taanaji –The Unsung Warrior.

This will be Kumar and T-Series’ first venture into period historical dramas, the kind with massive production value, huge set pieces and elaborate costumes. Such movies have been pretty successful as far as the Bollywood box office is concerned, with some standout examples being Bajirao Mastani and Jodhaa Akbar.

The two last collaborated on Raid, which was a big success earlier this year. According to Bollywood Hungama, Kumar flew down to London to meet Devgn and discuss the project with him. Speaking about the film, he said, “Ajay is one of the finest actors that we have today. The intensity that he brings to his performance is unparalleled. After the success of our recent film Raid, I am super excited to be part of a costume drama, a first for our banner T-Series.”

Taanaji will be about the historical warrior, Taanaji Malusare, who fought in the Maratha army, often alongside Shivaji. The movie will be directed by Om Raut and will see a 2019 release. Devgn is currently producing his wife Kajol’s upcoming Helicopter Eela, which releases September 14, 2018. He’s also filming for De De Pyar De and Total Dhamaal, which release on 19 October and 7 December, 2018 respectively.
