Ajay Devgn goes Akshay Kumar way; 'Maidaan' to now release in August 2021

Ajay Devgn is the latest to announce that he would release his upcoming movie 'Maidaan' in August, around Independence Day. For the uninitiated, Akshay Kumar had been releasing his movies on or around Independence Day for the past few years, especially since the last two years.

Akshay Kumar and John Abraham had clashed on the big screen since 2018. While Akshay Kumar's 'Gold' released in 2018 with 'Satyameva Jayate', his movie 'Mission Mangal' hit screens alongside 'Batla House'.

For 2021, Ajay Devgn announced that his film Maidaan, which celebrates the biggest sport in the world - Football, has a new release date. Touted to be a story of change and self-belief, 'Maidaan' will release the next Independence Day week, 13th August 2021.

Sharing a poster from the film with the new release date, he tweeted, "2021 Independence week. An untold story that will make every Indian proud. 13th August mark the date. #Maidaan2021"

The film also stars Priyamani, Gajraj Rao and the well known Bengali actor Rudranil Ghosh. Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Akash Chawla, and Arunava Joy Sengupta, screenplay and dialogues are written by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah respectively.
