Aamir Khan will be seen as a Sikh for the first time on screen. He will portray the role of Lal Singh Chaddha, in his next, which is an adaptation of the 1994 comedy drama Forrest Gump. In fact, After Hrs was the first to tell its readers that Aamir was working on the modalities of getting the rights of the Tom Hanks-starrer from the foreign studio, Paramount Pictures.
While meeting a press contingent on his birthday yesterday, the actor-producer announced that he had been obsessed with the multiple Academy Award-winning film since his Rang De Basanti days.
ATUL KULKARNI HAS PENNED IT
During the filming of the Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directorial, Aamir casually told his fellow actor Atul Kulkarni that Forrest Gump had left an indelible mark on him. Within a fortnight, the latter wrote its Hindi adaptation with screenplay and dialogue.
However, it took Atul two years to convince the Thugs Of Hindostan actor to hear it. “When I heard the screenplay, I was blown away,” says Aamir.
NEXT, HE WORKED ON GETTING PERMISSIONS
The versatile artiste travelled to Los Angeles to request the parent company to part with the remake rights for Indian languages. The modalities were completed recently. Now that all the permissions are in place, Aamir decided to share the news with the world.
ADVAIT CHANDAN IS THE DIRECTOR
We knew this earlier. However, Aamir just confirmed the news saying that his erstwhile assistant and the director of the superhit 2017 film Secret Superstar, Advait Chandan will helm the social drama.
IT MAY BE CALLED LAL, LAL SINGH OR LAL SINGH CHADDHA
However, the 54-year-old Bollywood superstar said the movie’s title is yet to be decided. “We may call it Lal, Lal Singh or Lal Singh Chaddha,” he revealed.
The film will be shot in North India, mostly in New Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and the adjacent areas. The recce is still being done.
ON COMPARISONS WITH TOM HANKS
Over the years, several comparisons have been drawn between Tom and Aamir. In India, fans of the latter believe that their favourite star resembles the America actor-filmmaker. When we pointed it out to Aamir, he said that he had heard about the same. He went on to add that he doesn’t see any physical similarities between him and the Oscar winner, but their screen energies seem to match.
