'A feisty girl-child at heart, who is going to relish eating kairi': Meghna Gulzar on 'Chhapaak' star Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone is all set to team up with Meghna Gulzar for the first time in Chhapaak. In the film, the actor will be seen playing the role of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The actor will be portraying a never-seen-before avatar and she will also be making her debut as a producer. The film went on floors recently and Meghna announced the same on her Instagram page. 

On Deepika's official website, Meghna wrote a heartfelt note for the actor and titled it, "Girl-Woman…" Meghna spoke at length about how Deepika bagged the role for Chhapaak. The Filmmaker said that it was a moment of serendipity when she asked for a meeting with the actor. She revealed that she had many conversations with herself assuming that Deepika might not be interested in doing this movie and she wasn't. Meghna revealed that Deepika was eyeing on to do something lighter after three back-to-back intense films. 

The Raazi director didn't have any lighter script for Deepika and after reading the script and knowing about the character, the actor said yes in a heartbeat. Meghna recalled, "She humours me that it is because of a scene where she gets to eat kairi with salt and red chilli powder."

Talking about Chhapaak, the film stars Vikrant Massey as the male lead. The release date of the film has not been announced yet. On the personal front, Deepika is enjoying her marital life with Ranveer Singh.
