With Hollywood warming up to the idea of superheroines on the big screen, these Bollywood actresses would rock as powerful girls back home

Hollywood realised the box office power of superheroes a while ago. While some were loved by the audience, some failed to make an impact. And there are still a few that are in the making. But we have never had a female counterpart for all the macho actors, barring Kangana Ranaut’s mutant act in Krrish 3. The recent Gal Gadot-starrer, Wonder Woman, did exceedingly well at the box office. Hollywood studios are now exploring the possibility of giving other superheroines their own outings. A thought that Bollywood, too, can explore, especially with actresses taking on the role of producers themselves.

Black Widow
Priyanka Chopra

Skill set: A former KGB agent Natasha Romanova, better known as Black Widow, is one of the best agents SHIELD has ever had. She’s a longtime member of the Avengers as well as the leader of the short-lived Los Angeles-based superhero team called the Champions.

Why PC: Priyanka fits the bill with her expertise as FBI’s Alex Parish in Quantico. The actress is in top form and has often said that she loves doing her own stunt scenes. On the desi turf, too, she has played Roma in Don and Don 2, that saw her pulling a few punches, as well as a warrior in Drona. Fun fact: Scarlett Johansson, who plays Black Widow in the Avenger series, was the voice of Kaa in the recent Jungle Book movie, while PC voiced the character in the Hindi-dubbed version.

Spider-Woman
Alia Bhatt

Skill set: Jessica Drew was genetically enhanced and given super-powers by the criminal organisation HYDRA, for whom she became an assassin as Spider-Woman. She later reformed and became a SHIELD agent and was also once a member of the Avengers and an Agent of SWORD.

Why Alia: Spider-Man has always had a youthful vibe, and so it seems only fair that Alia, who fits in that category, plays the female version of the superhero. While the actress is slated to star in her first superhero movie alongside Ranbir Kapoor in Dragon, which will be directed by Ayan Mukerji, it’s not known whether she will be having any superpowers in it. Maybe Ayan can take a cue from this Marvel superheroine to give Alia’s character an interesting turn.

Catwoman
Deepika Padukone

Skill set: Catwoman, whose secret identity is Selina Kyle, has been Batman’s most enduring love interest and is known for her complex love-hate relationship with him. As a Gotham Cityburglar, Catwoman typically wears a tight, one-piece outfit and uses a bullwhip for a weapon. The character was originally a supervillain and adversary of Batman, but since the 1990s, she has been featured in an eponymous series portraying her as an anti-heroine.

Why DP: Those lithe long legs and cat-like grace, make DP the top contender to play this superwoman. Also, Catwoman is an anti-heroine of sorts, the space that Deepika briefly explored in Cocktail, and it sure would be fun to see her do something more on the same lines.

Wonder Woman
Katrina Kaif

Skill set: Before she was Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, Diana meets an American pilot who tells her about the massive conflict that’s raging in the outside world. Convinced that she can stop the threat, Diana leaves her home for the first time. Fighting alongside men in a war to end all wars, she finally discovers her full powers and true destiny.

Why Kat: Katrina Kaif matches Gal Gadot on various counts. Not only does Kat have a hot bod, her sequences in Dhoom 3 showed that she is in great form, too. We have never seen Kat in an out-and-out action film. This would be a great first for her.

Scarlett Witch
Shraddha Kapoor

Skill set: Wanda Maximoff is the Scarlet Witch, a mutant with probability manipulation and reality-warping abilities. The Scarlet Witch is Quicksilver’s twin sister, the mother of Wiccan and Speed, and the ex-wife of the Vision. She is also infamously known for causing the Decimation.

Why Shraddha: Even with her petite frame, this would be one character that Shraddha can easily fit into. Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the role in the Avengers series, does have some similar physical features. And what’s more, Shraddha can even have her brother Siddhanth playing Quicksilver just like they do in Haseena Parkar.

Jean Grey
Anushka Sharma

Skill set: Jean Grey was one of the five original X-Men. An omega-level mutant telekinetic and telepath, Jean has gained near limitless powers as a recurrent host of the Phoenix Force. She is known for her many returns from death and as the deceased wife of Cyclops.

Why Anushka: While Jean Grey isn’t the kind of superheroine who gets into too many physical fights, she is among the most powerful mutants. The character also has an interesting curve with many returns from death. Famke Beumer Janssen, who played the character, got to play the helpful Jean Grey as well as her alter-ego Phoenix in the X-Men series. While Anushka has done a range of characters, we have never seen her play a baddie; this role would give her a chance to explore that too.
