It’s either through interviews, controversies, or social-media posts, that people get to know about the lives that celebs lead. However, some of them decided to give the janta a peek into their lives by penning down their personal story. Here are the B-Towners who turned authors this year.

KARAN JOHAR

WHAT: An Unsuitable Boy
WHAT’S IT ABOUT: Karan has always had a way with words. Be it his brief stint as a columnist or his witty tweets, the producer-director has always had a flair for writing. It was only a matter of time that he followed his friend Twinkle Khanna into the world of books. He was candid about everything right from his fights with friends like Kajol and Kareena, to losing his virginity, to sharing a deep bond with Shah Rukh Khan.

SOHA ALI KHAN

WHAT: The Perils of Being Moderately Famous
WHAT’S IT ABOUT: In a family full of famous personalities — dad Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, mom Sharmila Tagore, brother Saif Ali Khan, and sister-in-law Kareena Kapoor Khan — Soha terms herself “moderately famous”. In her book, she gave an insight into her life as the member of a royal family, her admiration for her father and the bond with her mother, the importance of living independently, and becoming a mother.

RISHI KAPOOR

WHAT: Khullam Khulla
WHAT’S IT ABOUT: Kapoor, who is known to be candid, was extremely frank when he decided to narrate the story of his life. His sense of humour, which one gets an insight into through his witty social-media posts, also shone through. Be it buying an award or his relationship with his son Ranbir Kapoor, he didn’t hold back and gave readers an honest glimpse into his life.

NAWAZUDDIN SIDDIQUI

WHAT: An Ordinary Life
WHAT’S IT ABOUT: Nawaz had warned before the release of the book that this would be an honest and potentially controversial tale. And it proved to be just that. His co-star Niharika Singh filed a complaint against him, which led to the biography being recalled. In his memoir, the actor spoke about his dream of making it big in Bollywood, his struggle to do so and his numerous affairs. The actor’s ordinary life comes across to be pretty extraordinary.

DIVYA DUTTA

WHAT: Me and Ma
WHAT’S IT ABOUT: Divya paid ode to her mother, Dr Shalini Dutta, through this book. The actress wrote about how the latter was an integral part of her life. She also beautifully described the bond that she shared with her mother, who was a single parent. Like on screen, the actress kept it real in the pages of her book, too.
