First half of 2017 is through and except for the dubbed release Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, there hasn’t been a major grosser. Yes, there have been successes like Raees, Jolly LLB 2, Badrinath Ki Dulhania and Kaabil. However, the non-performance of biggies like Tubelight, Raabta and Rangoon has diluted the impact.

Nonetheless, there are hopes for the industry before 2017 comes to a close, as there is a flurry of biggies awaiting to hit the screens in the next few months. Audiences can look forward to movies by superstars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan as well as younger actors Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Ranveer Singh. Also, most of these films are expected to enter the Rs 100 crore club and some could even go past the Rs 200 crore mark.

Toilet—Ek Prem Katha

Akshay Kumar has been picking up a new and interesting subject with every passing film of his and Toilet—Ek Prem Katha is no different. The promo has been unanimously appreciated and the subject is such that the audience in the interiors will totally be able to relate to it. A rare commercial film that taps social/hygiene issues in a fun manner, it highlights the social message along with entertainment on screen. This one should be a winner.

Jab Harry Met Sejal

Shah Rukh Khan is returning to a romcom after ages with Imtiaz Ali at the helm of affairs. Jab Harry Met Sejal is all set to be a fusion affair with the coming together of two distinct thought processes. SRK and Anushka Sharma have delivered a couple of successes together (Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan) and this one is set as a much livelier and fun affair that should keep the youth happy.

Golmaal Again

Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn have been a very successful jodi for almost a decade-and-a-half, and their Golmaal franchise is the biggest of the lot. Now, that they are coming with the fourth installment of the franchise, expectations have soared like never before. There is a good reason for that, since Bollywood has been hunting for a major comic entertainer for a while, and this Diwali release should take care of that.

Judwaa 2

Double the Varun Dhawan, double the ‘dhamaal’. That should well turn out to be the fun quotient that makes Judwaa 2 one of the most awaited films of the year. Together, producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director David Dhawan had delivered a solid hit with Salman Khan 20 years ago with Judwaa. With Varun filling in Salman’s spot in the combination, expectations are huge from this movie.

Padmavati

Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor coming together for Padmavati stays on to be one of the biggest star-studded affairs to arrive on the big screen before the close of the year. The film’s shooting is on at a rapid pace and one waits to see the grandeur and scale that would aid the ‘big screen’ storytelling of an important chapter from the history of India. A much-awaited affair.

Tiger Zinda Hai

Salman Khan may have had a disappointment with Tubelight. However, by all means that should be an aberration since he returns with Ek Tha Tiger co-star Katrina Kaif for the film’s sequel, Tiger Zinda Hai. The action musical entertainer sees a big Christmas release that should set the stage for it. Moreover, the director at the helm of affairs is Ali Abbas Zafar (Sultan) that should keep the YRF flag high.
