25 years of 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge': Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol's statue to be part of London's 'Scenes in the Square'

Aditya Chopra's directorial debut Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge will be completing 25 years of its release on October 20, 2020. The film which released in 1995 is the longest-running Indian film in theatres. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the lead roles, DDLJ as it's popularly called is considered as a cult classic. During the 20 years celebration of the film, the evergreen onscreen couple hosted an event at Maratha Mandir theatre where the film has been running for more than two decades.

Now, on the occasion of the silver jubilee of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, a bronze statue of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol is set to be unveiled in London. The statue will be put to display at Leicester Square as a part of 'Scenes in the Square' movie trail. DDLJ statue will be one of the many cinematic moments which has been immortalised as a bronze statue in that area.

Talking about the same, Mark Williams, the destination marketing director of Heart of London Business Alliance told MidDay, "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the most successful Hindi films of all time, and this statue is a fitting tribute to the global popularity of Bollywood."

Apart from Shah Rukh and Kajol, DDLJ also stars late Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Farida Jalal, Himani Shivpuri, Satish Shah, Mandira Bedi, Parmeet Sethi, late Achala Sachdev, Karan Johar, Anaita Shroff Adajania and Arjun Sablok in pivotal roles.

The out-and-out romantic blockbuster went on to win Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment at 43rd National Film Awards.
