After a string of successful productions, Karan Johar is all set to return to direction after a gap of two years since his last directorial 'Ae Dil Hai Mushkil'. It was rumoured for a while that Karan was working on a two-hero project and now we know exactly what is it about.

Karan announced the title of his next flick - 'Takht' on August 9. "An incredible story embedded in history...An epic battle for the majestic Mughal throne... A story of a family, of ambition, of greed, of betrayal, of love & of succession...TAKHT is about WAR for LOVE....(sic)," Karan wrote.

He announced the film's lead cast in his succeeding tweet. 'Takht' will feature Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor.

This is the first time when Karan Johar, who is a self-admitted fan of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's grand period dramas, will be trying his hand at a historic film.

In an interview with Film Companion, Karan explained, “It’s about two warring brothers and it’s based on facts...It’s like the K3G (Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham) of the Mughal era. But it’s more extreme, there is more betrayal. It has the tropes of court politics. It’s so rich in texture.”

While it's not yet known when exactly will the film go on floors, the poster mentions that 'Takht' will hit the cinemal halls in 2020.
