The much-awaited teaser of Shakeela is finally out. Starring Richa Chadha in the titular role, the actor will be portraying the life of the South siren of Malayalam movies back in the 90s. Shakeela was touted to be a force to reckon with and her personality went beyond her erotic image. She was a figure of power and spunk at a time when female actors were treated as arm candies by superstars.

In the teaser which is nearly 50 second long, we see Richa showcasing different glimpses of Shakeela as a glam queen who made people run to the theatres in packed houses. She is looking sexy as ever and has gone well into the skin of her character.

Check it out below:

The makers have described the premise of Shakeela as "Shakeela is a woman-centric film, inspired on a true story of a well-known adult star of the South Indian Film Industry who rose to fame in the 1990s because of her portrayal of a sex siren as she did umpteen porn films that had an audience of its own. In fact, her films were so popular (particularly in Malayalam) that every week she had a release thus giving tough competition to the top stars of the industry. This film directed by popular Kannada film director Indrajit Lankesh portrays the hardships of the actress as she had to face lots of criticism, insults and betrayals from her own family members and the film fraternity who were influential in getting her films banned."

The biopic also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Ester Noronha, Rajeev Pillai and Sheeva Rana in pivotal roles.

Sharing her excitement on Shakeela, Richa said in a statement, "I am happy that the film is releasing. Hopefully, it will bring some laughter and entertainment into the lives of people and this depressing year will end on a happier note. Shakeela's story is unlike any other and yet it's universal. She is very well known down south and it will be interesting to see how it will be received here. She did rule the roost for many years, providing steady business to cinema halls in times of crisis. It was also great to reunite with Pankaj Ji."

Directed by Indrajit Lankesh, Shakeela is releasing on December 25, 2020.
