On Thursday, a criminal write petition was filed in Bombay High Court seeking a permanent suspension or deactivation of Bollywood star Kangana Ranaut's Twitter account.

According to a report in Bar and Bench and part of the petition accessed by the publication, the petition stated that Kangana's tweets were responsible for "spreading continuous hatred, disharmony in the country"

A part of the plea reads,

"Every Indian citizen has a right to freedom of speech and not freedom of 'hate speech' and there are restrictions imposed to the freedom of speech. Yet several people like Ranaut have been spreading hate, breaking the brotherhood, integrity of the country through their time and again provoking hate speeches disrupting the peace in the country."

The report also claimed that one of Kangana's tweets, termed the judiciary as 'Pappu Sena', amounting to contempt of court.

As per the report, the criminal writ petition has been filed against actor Kangana Ranaut by advocate Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh under Section 482 of the CRPC (Saving of inherent powers of High Court).

In his petition, Deshmukh has alleged that the 'Thalaivi' star has been making remarks and tweeting against the executive machinery in Maharashtra including Ministers and the Mumbai Police on her social media handle.

For the uninitiated, the lawyer had earlier filed a complaint at Mumbai's Andheri court against Kangana Ranaut's social media posts after Mumbai Police failed to act on his complaint. After a hearing on the complaint in October end, Mumbai Police was directed to file a report.

Reacting to the news of the petition seeking her Twitter account suspension, Kangana wrote on the micro-blogging site, "Ha ha ha I am continuously taking about Akhand Bharat, inevitably fighting tukde gang everyday and I am accused of dividing the nation. Wah!!! Kya baat hai, anyway twitter is not the only platform for me in one chutki thousands camera will appear for my single statement

Earlier, a similar case was registered against Kangana and her sister Rangoli Chandel. In that, the sisters had been accused of spreading religious disharmony.

On October 17, after taking cognisance of Munnawaral aka Sahil Ahsrafali Sayyed's complaint, upon the direction of the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate J.Y. Ghule, an FIR was registered against the siblings. In his FIR,  Bollywood casting director and fitness trainer, Sayyed had accused the two of spreading communal hatred, defaming the film industry, portraying the people working in it in a bad light with claims of nepotism, drug addiction, communal bias, attempting to drive a wedge between artistes of different communities, calling them murderers, insulting religions, etc, on the social media and through public statements.

Meanwhile, a Punjab-based lawyer had earlier on Wednesday sent a legal notice to Kangana for allegedly misidentifying the woman at the farmers` protest in the national capital as Bilkis Bano.

Notably, Kangana had deleted her tweet allegedly misidentifying the woman after she was slammed for the same on social media.
