We plan to design for women very soon, says Adorn His designer Vaibhav and Tushi

Vaibhav and Tushi decided to start their own line of clothing around four years ago. While the fashion circuit is filled with options for women, the lack of the same for men was the reason why they came up with their label — Adorn His. They have also made inroads into film styling with Onir’s Kuch Bheege Alfaaz, and are currently in the process of bringing out a different line for girls. We caught up with the designers for a chat.

Tell us about how you began and the idea behind setting up your brand?

In 2014, we went out for Diwali shopping and couldn’t find anything worth buying in an affordable range — no unique designs and nothing unusual. The prices were through the roof! One could either go to an A-league designer, which everyone can’t afford, or choose from brands for the masses that were good, but their designs had standard looks. The idea was to set up a luxury designer wear brand that was smart and affordable — basically, fillng the gap between the regular and luxury couture. With the world economy going through turbulent times, affordable luxury is a respite for many habitual and occassional buyers. Someone who is used to designer wear but can’t afford the high-end ones. As of now, we come to the rescue by giving them the style and feel of couture wear at a lesser price.

It’s essentially a men’s apparel line that you specialise in. Why is that?

Globally, there are more women designers and men’s options are few. Men have become experimental, open to options and have started shopping.

Any plans to design for women soon?

Yes, very soon.

Tell us about doing the costumes for Kuch Bheege Alfaaz...

We were referred by a work associate to the stylist of the film and since we had been aggressively marketing our products through all mediums, the stylist and director saw our work and explained to us the look they wanted for their lead actor. We were lucky and happy to be able to be able to meet their requirements.

How is designing for films different from for individuals (red carpet appearances and all)?

The former is more like a project where you have a line of thought that has been laid out since the character is defined. Once you know what the person is like, mind gets clarity as to what will suit the character. One doesn’t know what an individual is like. Not many people open up about how they are and how experimental or classic they would like to look. Men, especially usually prefer being classic. Clothes should display one’s character and till the time we don’t know him, we can’t dress him up. Hence, we personally spend some time with each individual to understand the person and then pick out/design outfits for him.

Who from Bollywood, men and women, do you think are the most fashionble?

Amongst men, it would be Ranveer Singh and Saif Ali Khan. We love Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut.
