Clinton Cerejo and Bianca Gomes talk about their new indie electro pop project
Bianca Gomes and Clinton Cerejo

Vocalist and music producer Clinton Cerejo and Bollywod playback singer Bianca Gomes have worked together on Manhattan (English Vinglish), Lamho ke Rasgulle (Kahani 2) and Hatt Mullah (Jugni). After an indie fusion project, Ananthaal, the duo has started an electro pop project Shor Police and dropped their first single Anjaan. A quick chat with them...

What led you both to form Shor Police?

Bianca Gomes: After our fusion project Ananthaal, we were looking to do something different. We wanted to go in mainstream pop direction this time around.

Clinton Cerejo: My wife Dominique came up with the name Shor Police and we loved it instantly.

Tell us more about Anjaana...

Clinton: It’s a funky new track that has a bass hook running right through, around which we built the whole song. It is current sonically, yet has a bit of that retro flavour.

Bianca: The lyrics are fun, easy to grasp, and real. It’s about how once you are smitten by someone, you can’t help lose control over your emotions even though you may want to be the one in control.

How different is it to collaborate as a band after Bollywood songs?

Clinton: This process is more collaborative between us. We try and zone in on what impact we want to make and take it from there.

Bianca: Indie music is about figuring out who we are as artistes first and then letting that reflect through our music. In films, you need to consider the movie and the situation and work within those boundaries.

Any plans to release an album?

Clinton: The album format is not necessarily the best way music is consumed these days and barring one or two, a lot of songs go unnoticed. Singles are more the way to go.

Bianca: We’d like to continue releasing singles. But we still intend on having a common sound for all our originals, which will be in the electro-pop genre.

What’s a typical Shor Police jam session like?

Clinton: The process is extremely random sometimes. It’s nice not to always have a clear agenda as it leaves the door open for some happy accidents when you’re jamming and sometimes before you know it, you have the semblance of what looks like a hit song.

Bianca: We first decide on what kind of sound we want to write a song in, then play around with chord progressions or if we find a particular loop that we like and build on it from there.
