Congress pulls out an old video on Uma Bharati, is it desperation or poll tactics?

Days after being stung by the book bomb that targeted the first family of the Congress, the party’s dirty tricks department has decided to go back into the past and release old videos to target the BJP.

The latest release is a video with Uma Bharti at a public meeting. The video reportedly taken when Uma had floated her own party the Bharatiya Janshakti Party.  In the video she is heard allegedly calling the Bharatiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate as a ‘Vinash Purush’ (destructive man). She claims that when he visited Gujarat, she felt it was a “fear stricken state” and added that even Hindu’s felt scared in Ahmedabad. She further claimed that NArendra Modi had destroyed Gujarat.

Uma has had a love-hate relationship with the Bharatiya Janata Party having been expelled from the party once and is often heard ridiculing the party and its senior leaders.

Just a few days ago, Uma had herself targeted the Gujarat chief minister claiming he wasn’t as good an orator as former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She later clarified that huge crowds come to his rallies not to hear him but instead as they supported him and the BJP.

But with its latest attack on the BJP, the Congress has clearly shown the heights of desperation the party’s top leadership is facing, as poll after poll continues to give the BJP a clear lead in the Lok Sabha elections.

The party had just a few days ago, used the picture of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and written a piece on its website citing references to the ex-PM and his views on Narendra Modi.

While the nation faces increasing corruption, lack of jobs, an economy that isn’t growing, challenges to internal security and a hundred and one other problems, why does the Congress continue to pull out old videos and details to attack its opposition.

It seems the Congress has no answers to price rise, lagging infrastructure growth and more. Even after the attempt to talk of secularism failed for the party, the party continues to clutch at straws this election season. It almost seems like the Congress has nothing else to talk about.

Can’t the Congress party, with all its youth leaders not understand the needs and aspirations of a young aspirant India, that has no concerns for the likes of an Uma Bharti?

Young India wants jobs, development, better infrastructure and better education. To leak such videos and unethically target the BJP in such a manner only shows how low the grand old party of India has stooped to.
