DNA’s S Shiv Kumar, A Veeramani, Mohan Kumar BN, Nishant Ratnakar and Bosky Khanna get close to the city's brain trust to find out about the hurdles on the road ahead.
Justice Santosh Hegde If India signs the climate treaty at the Copenhagen Summit, then green cover will have to be protected for better carbon trade. But if green cover is reduced like the way it is being done now it will damage the environment in a big way. One of the major cause for reduction of green cover is activities such as mining. This will have a major impact on climate change. Every day 1,500 lorries ply between Sandoor and Karnataka. If we can reduce the levels of mining, there will be less damage to the eco-system. We have to move away from fossil fuel. Such measures will improve the environment. It is also important to use more public transport system to limit the burning of fossil fuel. Hegde is the Lokayukta
