They really are young adults

Nivetha K aged 10 years studying in class 5 in MMET English Primary School.

Nivetha has a special plan for Children’s Day. “I want to be nice to people whom I don’t like. That day, I will be friendly with those who scold me as well,” she says. If she has her way, she would like to help the poor and give away old clothes.

It’s not just the poor that Nivetha is conscientious with. Her mother, Sumathi, works as a domestic help, and Nivetha takes charge of her eight-year-old sister, Swetha (left in pic). “I help her with studies, and also with other things,” she says. She also runs errands for her mother. “I wash clothes and vessels. I sweep the house as well,” she adds.

Pogo, Cartoon Network and Chutti TV are part of her daily schedule. She also likes movies “that make me laugh” and she loves to dance.

Maggi is her favourite food, which her father Francis, who works as a freelance printer, gets for her quite often.

Nivetha aims to be a doctor “because I can help everyone,” she says.
