The year-long wait for your iPad is over, and quite possibly, it is worth the wait.

Unlike its launch abroad, the 3G versions which have been launched in the Indian market haven’t been restricted to particular service providers. All versions available here will be unlocked and will work with a Micro SIM of any 3G-service provider.

This added advantage offered by Apple to benefit the Indian market has worked as a trump card. The iStores in Bangalore on Friday, when the iPad was launched here, saw Apple fans walking into stores to equip themselves with the gorgeous gadget.

Karthik Kiran, a BPO Employee, said “I think the iPad will definitely be a success in India. I have picked up the 3G version and the best part is that it is not restricted to a certain service provider. It has the right sort of quiet confidence. It might start in a relatively low-key way, but I feel all those who had been waiting for eBooks, will take the plunge and buy an iPad.”

Murali Kiran, a businessman, said “I am not so technically sound about the gadget but have once used it as my brother, who is abroad, owned one. I fell in love with it. The moment I knew that today was the launch I rushed to the store on MG Road and was among the first to pick the iPad.”

iStore Manager at UB City said “We have sold eleven pieces already from the time we opened the store and a lot of enquires about it also have been dropping in.”

Apple’s major rivals in the tablet market in India are Samsung Galaxy Tab and the Olive pad. Although Apple has competitively priced the iPad, Samsung has dropped the price tag on the Galaxy Tab from Rs36,499 to Rs29,500. Another much-awaited tab is the BlackBerry playbook which is due later this year.
