Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, on Saturday announced programmes to combat recession and increase revenue. The CM hinted at imposing non-tax levies to generate revenue. “However, we won’t burden the poor with such taxes. Instead, we will levy tax on individuals and institutions who receive facilities by the government.” However, a final decision in the matter is still to be taken, he said.
The government has also decided to install electronic tax registers at shops dealing in high-value goods. “Nobody should escape the tax net. The new system would ensure more accountability in tax payments,” said a senior official from the commercial tax department. The CM also said that all commercial tax checkposts would be converted into electronic checkposts to ensure more transparency and accountability.
On transfers for lecturers in degree colleges, he asserted that the system of “transfers through counseling” has been well-received. He added that the practice may be followed in other departments. The CM said that a study would be undertaken in all departments to assess the work load on each employee.
