Well-wishers in Sandalwood sprung into action to rescue actor Tugudeepa Darshan, arrested on Friday for allegedly assaulting and threatening his wife Vijayalakshmi.

They reportedly tried to arrange a compromise between Darshan and Vijayalakshmi.

Actors Ambarish, Vijay, Prem, Jaggesh and others were in touch with Vijayalakshmi from Thursday night to Friday evening to arrange a compromise between her and Darshan. Ambarish, respected for solving disputes in the industry, assured Vijayalakshmi that Darshan would not repeat his wayward ways.

The veteran actor told that he can be held responsible if Darshan abuses Vijayalakshmi in future.

Later on Friday, Vijayalakshmi took a U-turn and requested police to withdraw the case. Vijayalakshmi stated that she had arrived at a compromise with her husband. She also gave a statement before the court to withdraw the case as it was purely a family matter. Vijayalakshmi said that she had received the injury after falling in the bathroom.

Vijayalakshmi was discharged from hospital around 4 pm and taken to the court in an ambulance to ensure easy bail for Darshan.

The actor’s counsel produced a medical certificate which stated that Vijayalakshmi had sustained minor injuries. Police termed the certificate fake.

However, the judge did not consider the certificate and remanded Darshan to judicial custody for 14 days.

Vijayalakshmi was treated at Gayatri Hospital where she was admitted around 12.30 am on Friday. Doctors said that Vijayalakshmi had major injuries, but out of danger. She was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Informing that Vijayalakshmi’s body was swollen, Dr Zagne of Gayatri Hospital said that four stitches had been administered in her left ear and head. Burnt marks confirmed that Darshan had harassed Vijayalakshmi by burning her body with lit cigarette butt.
Vijayalakshmi was given anaesthesia as she had major injuries. Dr Zagne said that Vijayalakshmi had blood clotting in some parts of her body.
